Why do we do this?

Let’s be honest: Most people dread occupational safety day. They expect 8 hours of slide presentations and a monotonous voice. We do not teach like that.

Occupational safety training doesn’t have to be boring

We believe that inspiring training saves more lives than a numbing lecture.

In Finland, the “Zero Accidents” vision is not just a slogan. The Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) has created a standard so that everyone from electricians to CEOs speaks the same “safety language.”

We don’t just talk about visions and goals. We dive deeper into the root causes and intended outcomes. Often, it’s noticed that systems perceived as a ‘necessary evil’ can be used to build efficient and productive environments – occupational safety then comes as a natural byproduct. Best of all: at the end of a great training day, everyone has an occupational safety card in their pocket.

Background and Significance of the Occupational Safety Card

The Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) was founded in 1970 to promote safety and well-being in Finnish workplaces. The Occupational Safety Card system itself was developed in the early 2000s to meet the industry and construction sector’s need to unify safety practices at shared workplaces.
The core value of this system is a proactive safety culture: the goal is zero accidents and ensuring that every worker returns home healthy. Card training ensures that every professional understands responsibilities, identifies hazards, and knows how to act correctly in dangerous situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the occupational safety card mandatory? +

Finnish law (Occupational Safety and Health Act 738/2002) requires sufficient induction, but the occupational safety card has become the industry standard. Most main contractors and industrial plants require a valid card from everyone working at a shared workplace. We offer full training and examination in English, facilitating the employment of international workers in Finland.

How quickly do I get the card after the course? +

Immediately. From the beginning of 2025, the digital card is the primary certificate. When you pass the exam, your information is updated in the national register immediately. You can log in to the Korttitieto.fi service and show your mobile card from your phone to your employer right away.

What are the occupational safety card exam questions like? +

The occupational safety exam consists of 27 true/false statements regarding hazard identification, occupational health and safety responsibilities, and acting in emergencies. A score of at least 75% correct is required to pass. Since our course is conducted in English, we ensure you fully understand the material and questions before the exam.

How do I check my card’s validity? +

The occupational safety card is valid for 5 years. You can check your card information in the public register at ttkorttihaku.fi by entering your name and date of birth (requires strong authentication).

Can I still get a physical plastic card from the course? +

Yes, but it is optional. The Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) discontinued automatic plastic cards in 2025. However, you can order a physical card for an additional fee from the Korttitieto service after completing the exam. The mobile card is, however, a fully official and sufficient certificate at all workplaces.
